2017 Leagues Underway

14 Apr

Playing with others is a good way to meet disc golfers, test your skills, and to learn more about what is going on in the disc golf scene. Fees are typically about $5 each week. Some leagues require a club membership to encourage growing the club. They offer a non-member fee for visitors.

League schedule for a week in May.

Twelve “leagues” are currently scheduled around eastern to central Nebraska. Mini-tournaments is a more accurate description. Most of these leagues pay cash to the top third each week as opposed to buying into a league and having prizes awarded at the end of the session.

Having a weekly reminder on your calendar is a good way to remember what’s going on. The Lincoln/Omaha league calendar, and the Tri-Cities calendar, can be added to your computer or smartphone. Adding an iCal calendar is a little different for each device. The basic idea is to copy the iCal address, go into your calendar settings, click to add a calendar, then paste in the iCal address. For more information select the LEAGUES menu. Check the calendar from time to time because new leagues will be added. For example a Sunday Funday, or maybe a Roper Doubles this summer.

Starting a league is fairly simple. Decide where and when you want to meet, and how much to charge a pay back. Is there an ace fund, and does some of the money go to the local club or the league director? Will scores be posted online?

PDGA sanctioned leagues is an option too. It costs $25 for the sanctioning fee for a six to ten week league. And each week $1 is collected from each participant because 50¢ goes to the PDGA and 50¢ goes to the local club. Amateurs can even compete with the pros and win cash without effecting their PDGA Am status or eligibility for World’s tournaments. Being a PDGA member is not required, no extra fee for non-members. Here is a link to the PDGA league page that can answer a lot of questions. http://www.pdga.com/leagues

Select the LEAGUES menu to find a league near you. Hope to see you out on the course.
